sustainability

A holistic sustainable design solution is founded on a deep understanding of the project site, the macro and micro climate, and the way people, energy and materials flow through the building. We believe it is our responsibility as architects and planners to be in harmony with the natural processes of the earth and to be careful stewards of the earth’s resources. For us, sustainability is the care of the “commons” – at all scales – both now and in the future.

On the smaller scale of materials that make up a building, our projects demonstrate leadership in issues of sustainable construction and feature direct and inventive use of materials. We have extensive knowledge in building envelope options, have experimented with ways to address the water resource issues in our arid climate and care about indoor air quality that is a direct result of chosen materials. We’ve helped establish new industries and systems based on locally available materials. We work with an integrated team of professionals who strive, along with us, to help find innovative solutions for the issues pertaining to a particular project.
