2011:
Angie Lipski’s home was submitted for Fine Homebuilding’s annual HOUSES 2011 awards. This is a nationwide competition that received 350 submissions and comes out in the spring every year. It ended up winning “Remodel of the Year” 2011. Angie will be a judge for HOUSES 2012. Read more

And it was written up in the state’s artist journal, Montana Arts Council State of the Arts, July/August 2011, “Missoula Architect Wins National Award for ‘Seamless’ Remodeling.” Read more

Don MacArthur was named “Citizen Planner of the Year” by the Montana Association of Planners. The award was given out at the group’s annual conference, held this year in Big Sky, Montana. To read more about the organization, click here.

Presentations 2012:
In July, Colin Lane presented a study about energy usage to Homeword, a local affordable housing developer. Energy usage data was gathered for their properties throughout Montana, then compared with national baseline data. See the presentation

Awards 2010:
MMW wins the Missoula in Motion Commuter Challenge 2010! We claimed the crown for the second year in a row. The Commuter Challenge occurs each May during Bike/Walk/Bus week in Missoula. Companies compete based on the size of their business. To learn more about Missoula in Motion, click here
The Missoula Federal Credit Union, Russell Branch, received the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute “Sustainable Design Award,” Honorable Mention, and the “Harry H. Edwards Industry Achievement Award,” Co-Winner. Click here to learn more about these awards.

The Missoula Federal Credit Union, Russell Branch, was written up in Environmental Design + Construction, September 22, 2010 “Concrete Pioneers.” The article is about how this project is the first in the world to use 100% fly ash concrete in all concrete for the project. Read more
Our People
2012:
Colin Lane recently passed the latest version of the USGBC LEED exam. He is now a LEED AP BD+C. Colin already is our in-house sustainability expert…and now this! Outstanding, Colin!
Shane Morrissey recently passed all of his architectural licensing exams. Way to go, Shane!
CanStruction 2012
From the Montana Food Bank Network, “What is CANstruction®? A foundation of the Society for Design Administration, CANstruction® is a design/build competition currently held in cities throughout North America. Teams of architects, engineers, students and folks from numerous organizations come together to build large structures made entirely from full cans of food.”
MMW’s theme was tied to the Montana road signs that welcome visitors at the state’s borders. The project won First Prize for Structural Integrity and Second Place for “Best Use of Labels.”
2011:
Spontaneous Construction 2011
From the Home ReSource website, “Spontaneous Construction is an all-day construction contest and festival that takes place October 8th, 2011 at Home ReSource. SponCon is based around a building contest in which contestants have six hours to use any of the materials from Home ReSource to build the most beautiful, functional, musical, or generally amazing creations possible.”
See what our team created. They won First Prize. The MMW team won the Grand Prize last year (see 2010).

“Missoula residents take bike tour of urban chicken coops”
A bike tour of nine chicken coops around Missoula was sponsored by the Missoula Urban Demonstration Project. The goal of the tour was for people to learn more about urban chickens and do so as sustainably as possible, i.e., via bikes. MMW’s own Marie Wilson had one of the coops on the tour.
CanStruction 2011

Teams of architects, engineers, students and folks from numerous organizations come together to build large structures made entirely from full cans of food.”
MMW’s theme was a campsite, complete with a tent, campfire and cooler for food. The project won “Best Meal.”

2010:
Spontaneous Construction 2010
From the Home ReSource website, “Spontaneous Construction is an all-day construction contest and festival that takes place in {October] at Home ReSource. SponCon is based around a building contest in which contestants have six hours to use any of the materials from Home ReSource to build the most beautiful, functional, musical, or generally amazing creations possible.”
The team created a buffet table with wine storage underneath. The project was awarded Grand Prize. As a result, the team won a guided eight day back country pack trip in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, in western Montana. See pictures of both the winning object and the back country adventures.

CanStruction 2010
From the Montana Food Bank Network, “What is CANstruction®? A foundation of the Society for Design Administration, CANstruction® is a design/build competition currently held in citities throughout North America. Teams of architects, engineers, students and folks from numerous organizations come together to build large structures made entirely from full cans of food.”
MMW’s theme was “Catch and Release” and featured a fish coming out of the water and going for a fly. The project won “Best in Show.”
