BITTERROOT RESIDENCE
Bitterroot Valley, Montana
This home is designed as sanctuary for a lively personality to unwind, entertain and marvel at the stunning Bitterroot Mountains. The approach of the home is modest and welcoming. Windows on each side of the hand-crafted entry door give a hint of the space within but do not fully reveal it. A large great room with a double-height ceiling and wall-to-wall glass provides an inspiring setting for large gatherings of family and friends. Exterior spaces include a large, covered patio, firepit, pool, and spa.
Stone, charred wood and corten steel were chosen as exterior materials to anchor the home to the landscape and protect it from the harsh Montana weather. Stone, tile, wood, and plaster were chosen as primary interior materials to give warmth and character to the space while revealing the hand of Montana craftspeople. The home is heated and cooled with an all-electric ground source heat pump system. Renewable energy is provided by solar panels.
