Missoula Parks & Recreation
As part of the City of Missoula’s Aquatics Project, Currents is an indoor swimming facility that also houses the Parks & Recreation department. The facility has a large leisure pool, two water slides, a lap pool, resistance lane, spa and party room.
Due to variously sized and placed windows, dappled light fills the natatorium space. Log columns support the glu-lam beams overhead, suggesting a forest. A small exterior splash deck overlooks Silver’s Lagoon, a historic Missoula fishing and ice-skating pond. Sandblasted into the exterior pre-cast panels is a 1% for Public Art project by James Todd, representing “from earth to sky” and adorned with birds, critters, water and sky.
