Life on the lake is about movement to and from the water. This extensive remodel of a dilapidated collection of structures on Flathead Lake’s Finley Point clarifies and celebrates the journey to the lake. The merging of contemporary clean lines with charming historic detailing and natural textures brings harmony and a fresh beginning to this Missoula family’s weekend lake house.

Originally constructed prior to current zoning regulations, the existing structures were not allowed to be expanded in any way. Thus, the new design focuses heavily on interior remodeling, landscape and site. New exterior architectural details such as modified roof lines, trim, awnings, and window boxes bring scale and texture to the adhoc existing structures. The former spiderweb of crisscrossing stairs and decks has been clarified by stripping away the unnecessary and orienting all vertical circulation to descend with the landscape toward the water.
