SCHOOL OF MUSIC REMODEL & ADDITION

University of Montana

The proposed renovations will support the school’s mission to prepare students for wide-ranging careers in music from performance to education to business and administration. The renovations are targeted to five areas of the existing building – the two large ensemble rehearsal rooms, the practice rooms, the recital hall and the lobby.

The extent of planned renovations varies according to the needs of the school and existing conditions. The design approach is based on respect for the historic, mid-century architecture of the 1951 building. Wherever possible, the new interventions are integrated into the existing design’s material palette, geometry, proportion and details. Although the rehearsal rooms will be completely rebuilt, their design is inspired by the unique qualities of the original architecture.
